Owners of .yu domains are being migrated to .me domains (gotta be a joke in there, somewhere).
With the subdomain its.me Montenegro is clearly aiming at the English-speaking world market. Buyers are cautioned, however, that only the very best domains are likely to have significant value in the years ahead, particularly subdomains.
.ME domains will be released in 2008. Here is the schedule, according to the registry. Please understand that postponement of these openings is always a posibility.
March 24:
Registration of Government second level domains.
Migration from cg.yu to co.me/org.me/net.me/its.me - Montenegro only.
March 25 to April 16:
accepting requests for migration from cg.yu to co.me/org.me/net.me/its.me .
April 18 to 21:
Government and migration requests processed and domains go live.
May 1-May 6:
Montenegrin Sunrise
Only applications from Montenegrin (Montenegro) entities are allowed and will be submitted directly.
Applications from Montenegrin Sunrise will be evaluated in the Quiet Period, along with applications from the General Sunrise. If there are multiple applications for a domain, Montenegrin Sunrise applicants will compete in auction with General Sunrise applicants.
May 6-May 20:
General Sunrise
All accredited registrars allowed into registry.
Application info available to registrars (via EPP and Web Admin Tool) but not via WHOIS.
Ongoing registrar accreditations.
May 20-June 6:
Quiet Period
Registry closed to registrars; domain queries may be possible.
5-day or 7-day Sunrise auctions will be held for names receiving multiple applications. Names for which there was only one application will be allocated via batch job.
Application info will not be available to registrars; names will show up in WHOIS only after they are allocated.
Domains are billed at the time of allocation.
Compliance checking will continue through the Quiet Period.
Newly accredited registrars can be set up in this period in preparation for Landrush.
June 6-June 26:
Landrush
Landrush application info available to registrars (via EPP and Web Admin Tool) but not via WHOIS.
Newly accredited registrars can be set up in this period.
Sunrise Challenges begin.
June 26-July 15:
Quiet Period
Registry closed to registrars; domain queries may be possible.
